CHAPTER FOUR - POST RENOVATION RESPONSIBILITIES

Post renovation responsibilities ? Do you mean my interior designer or contractor must still be responsible to my home even now that the project has finish its renovation ?

THE ANSWER IS YES, they should.

Their services will only ceased upon the FULL HAND-OVER of the project, usually symbolised by the handing over of the KEY !

Perhaps, in some better managed company, home owners may be asked to sign-off the completion of project forms and give feedbacks to their customer service officers. That will serve as a final hand-over. That also pass on any outstanding or new problems to the home owners.

Therefore, new home owners should NEVER be shy to ask questions. MAKE SURE that your every queries are answered and you are satisfied with the results.

You will then be asking, so what if you are not satisfied with the results ?
Then the answer will lie in whether the result is considered a renovation fault or design fault.

Talk to the designer or contractor to see if this problem can be smoothen out. If its not possible, or requires removal and reconstruction, then you be asked for additional costs bearing.

Now that we are talking about costs bearing, let also touch on the payment that you can control to protect yourself. In most cases, you are left about 10%-20% to make your final payment. This will usually happen after you officially take over the flat from the contractor. Thus, if you decide that the some of the outstanding works are not satisfied, you can probably decline to take over and see that the works be done. Or seek compensation. Or submit your complaint to the government body like CASE.
